My brother went to Australia almost two years ago.

His Visa process was hard work, despite going with his Australian girlfriend.

He got through it eventually though and has a full working visa there now. He's really happy.

I have been toying with the idea of working in another English-speaking country for a year or two - but will probably not get around to doing it due to the fact I will probably be able to earn more in the UK.

As many of you know, I moved here and left my other New York alley cats behind. I do miss Fancy-Fancy, Spook, Benny the Ball, The Brain, and Choo Choo. (Obviously Benny is my main man.)

Anyway, it was my buddy (Sir Russ of Prestone) who suggested I moved here and to be honest i'm not really digging it kids. So, as soon as I am qualified i'm off to see Dorothy and The Wizard of Oz next year and will probably stay there.

It will be a sad affair, but life has to move on. *wipes eyes*

Ive wanted out of here for a while.
A lad at work is going through the process of moving to new zealand.
His wife is from there and they have family there also.
Other than this, what other ways actually permit you to live in another country.
I dont know the first thing about emigration but would love to consider it as an option.
I'll take a look at that bunac site now too

depends entirely on the country!

USA is ****nig hard to get into unless you have an irish passport, as they have a special agreement.

OZ and NZ you can get a working tourist visa and stay for up to a year i think, you then have to apply for leave to remain....and its a points system so depending on your career/health/family ties depends how you score and if you are allowed to stay.

Canada was recently looking for a whole load of people to live in alberta but they were specific medical/business roles i think.

Ever since i met josie, ive wanted to go live in NZ.
They way its been described just sounds amazing + this lad at work also raves about it.
Ive done my own research and its sold itself.
Such a good clean cheap way of life.
Also, i hadnt even thought about it til i read peoples ideas here....ive been to banff, canada 2/3 times and loved it everytime so that would be a great place to consider too.
I love living here at times but when i see what else i could experience, the uk sucks bad

Ive been thinking about it, same as everyone else I want to go to USA, Canada, Australia or NZ.

All depends on what my situation is next year, whether I go onto my HNC or not, I want to do my HNC but if the situation at work changes I may not be as I dont think I will have enough points with my HNC and the two years extra work

No, I couldn't take Maddy away from her family and friends etc and it would be hard as a single parent anyway, the only place I suppose I could go would be America where I have family but I have no desire to even visit the country, never mind live there. If Maddy wasn't a consideration then it is something I would think about.

Someone at work once actually told me they were moving to spain because they were sick of living in a country full of immigrants

That is all. I might consider living somewhere else in Briatain if Nick is really keen on it but I'm perfectly happy where i am, tbh. Although a couple of years in some nice lefty country might be good for kids, so I wouldn't rule it out.

Wouldn't want to live in the USA, according to Nick its really racist and i know its generally right wing, which always upsets me. I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to politics really. I suppose I'd quite like to see new orleans, but only cos nick goes on about it all the bloody time.

I would love to emigrate to Australia - nicer climate, better houses for your money and a better lifestyle, though the cost of living is about the same as here. However, the spiders and snakes are an issue to me and also it would be much too far from my family, we're so close I don't think I could do it.

I've been looking at taking my teaching qualification elsewhere, and in two years time, I can do just that. The PGCE is pretty much the international gold standard for teachers, and I could teach in any English speaking country, or in any country which has English speaking schools, which is pretty much all of them.

In short, adiós f*ckers.

ok, so i did emigrate.. not due to some xenophobic hypocrisy of 'this place is full of immigrants so i'm off', but for family reasons.. i moved to the US a year ago, and it was a complete ballache, even though my wife's American, and having just sold a house, was not exactly about to become an expense on someone elses lands, i still had to go through a long drawn out process.. now its all good though, i have my nice shiny green card (which oddly is cream in colour, not green at all) a worthwhile process for me, though i do miss pies and decent ale!

To dispell one myth, having an Irish passport doesn't instantly mean you can get a US visa, it means you can take part in the US visa lottery, where a % of visas each year, (as they only give out so many) go to a lottery system only certain countries can enter, mostly eastern europe, south east asia and oddly enough, Ireland. However, you still have to satisfy the criteria for a visa - you still need to have enough money to support yourself, or someone to sponsor your stay. the number of visa's available, and the number sent via lottery has been reduced to practically nothing in recent years, its not the free for all that saw mass emigration in the 50's from ireland, southern italy etc.

Cananda - were seemingly crying out for IT workers, i had quite a few consultancies asking me to go there instead of the US, sadly the canadian $ is worth even less than the american, and salaries arent great..

As for the US being Right wing and racist. A sweeping generalisation if ever there was. there are Right wing idiots everywhere, some in power, some the people you meet on the street, i'd say on experience, theres more per head in the UK, sadly. Whether they like it or not, the US is a nation of immigrants, that is slowly but surely accepting its short history, and becoming a better place for it.

I'd quite like to go to Canada, I have since I was about 9 for some reason.

I'm going to avoid ever going to America if I can, that place is worse then here! I'd more than likely have to go to a Commonwealth country and then do a conversion as Law is quite a unique thing to a lot of countries so as much as I'd love to move to and learn to live in a foreign speaking country I more than likely couldn't pull it off.

I considered Australia but from what I can make out it's quite a racist country (although if you look at our news we don't appear much better) and their are too many things that can kill you. New Zealand looks nice but I've never looked into it too much.

It is to laugh.

Surely you meant "who's not going to get elected president because 10% of people who say they'd vote for a black guy actually wouldn't in a million years"? Or possibly, "who wouldn't have lost to Bush in 2000 if he hadn't had a Jew on the ticket"?

Segregated prom nights. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2003/may/03/usa.internationaleducationnews) The Jena Six. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2007/sep/17/comment.usa1) No more racist than England my arse. I've actually lived there, and when I was discussing moving off campus, was told, with a straight face, by a ****ing SOCIOLOGY LECTURER, "you can't move to Gentilly, it's full of blacks". This wasn't from some rube with a confederate flag on his pick-up truck, this was from someone who votes Democrat every time and rolls his eyes at the name of Limbaugh - even their lefties come out with stuff that would make Norman Tebbit blush.
