carpets to go in and a few other bits & pieces, but otherwise it's done (the pub anyway - captain coconuts has been emptied, but the event room hasn't been finished yet).

i'll post up the beer menu once i've got it. :)

are you making the old captain coconuts room into a gig venue?

joe ersatz
13-08-2008, 11:55 PM
a room with a stage, certainly - it will be able to be used for gigs anyway. the plan is to have theatre & suchlike in there as well - it's got great acoustics.

i took a pic of the event room for you - it's massive (obv there's still quite a lot of work to do - it's being used as storage at the moment...)

Is it a lunchtime opening or evening?

i think it's a midday opening. I hope so. I'm taking my long-lost and recently found (after 16 years) cousin there for lunch on Saturday.

All the way down broadgate at the bottom near avenham isnt it? I remember going there as a kid cause my auntie and uncle were the landlord and landlady there once, its an ace place and its good that its coming back.

Someone in Bittersuite on Friday night (name begins with a W and ends in N) said it would be next weekend for the opening.

My mate from 3Bs intends to head down on Sunday, do I tell him 'no' or 'go'?

been open since 12.10 this afternoon... a load of volunteers from broadgate turned up on saturday morning to help out, and we managed to get it shipshape by just after 12.

there's still a bit of work to do (some painting, some garden work, and the floor in the snug needs finishing), so it's only going to be open evenings for the next few days. still time to get down there for a pint tonight mind - it's a lovely evening...

Looks really good. So good to have a pub of such quality in easy walking distance, we had what 4 pubs closed round here. Only decent pubs within walking distance are the Vic & Station, or the Fleece in 'wortham, so I think I may be at the Continental a lot now :)

i can't go back, on account of the snoozing baby upstairs. :(

i'd only have to work anyway i guess...

Yr not allowed in The Fleece unless you're over 50. Well, you're allowed but they look at you funny.

I liked it when i wen tin today, but they should lose the bar stools from the bar when it gets busy, will speed up the bar and keep everyone happier. Apart from that, good lot of beers, good lot of whiskies and a lovely massive beer garden. I will return to sample food stuffs.

joe ersatz

yeah, there will be more bar staff - we only had the manager & his assistant on today, as they haven't had a bar to train people in until this morning... it will be staffed appropriately in future.

the food is lush btw - i had the pork loin with black pud & mash for tea, and it rocked. :)

Just got back to Preston now, so did not have chance to make it down.

Will it be open 7pm Monday?

Got the CAMRA Ale Cry mag/newsletter thing today with Continental article on front page, will drop a load of them off Monday if all goes well.
