Not really a show its more like performance art.
i wanted to go so much but accomodation (price of) and the fact the trains are now full whack and the credit crunch means i shall miss it. the cunnys

I booked my accommodation 12 months ago to avoid this! Got a private room in a hostel
( http://www.highstreethostel.com/ ) for 20 quid each a night!
Train fare was £54 return each. Not too bad but still a bit steep.

This is my first Fringe so gonna test the waters then gather the troops for next year.
Would have liked to have seen the tattoo again but at more than £40 a ticket I'll have to give it a miss till next year.

I'm going, fortunately we have friends not far from Edinburgh so we get their house to stay in for free as long as we look after their dogs.
Still not sorted out what we're doing itinerary wise, not that organised.

We're only going on the friday and coming back on the sunday because of ;);) plus money and mia we're only doing a short one. I've only found 2 shows i want to see (but then i haven't looked properly at whats on that weekend) and i think we're camping a few miles away. Although nothing has been set in stone as yet, should be done in rehearsal tomorrow :)

I want to go if I can scrape some money together. No idea where I'd stay or how I'd get there though.
If you want to try the new Rock n Metal boozer, its the Black Rose on Rose Street (which runs parallel to Princes Street). Opened Feb-ish, and it is good. First time I went in I thought 'Now this is how Mercury Flux should have been done'.
Also worth a try are the Southern Bar on South Clerk Street and the Blind Beggar on Brouhton Street.
When not stopping with friends, I use the Kingsview Guest House, 28 Gilmore Place, EH3 9NQ. Awesome breakfasts.

this. im there from 13th til 17th. really looking forward to it. two of us are going. transport sorted. not booked accomodation cos we are idiots. hopefully we will find somewhere, i like the adventure!
although we have got a couple of friends there who we might be able to bum a room from if all else fails.
saw a play in manchester on friday called 'dog called redemption'. its showing daily at the fringe and is written by and starring a man from Preston as far as i'm aware. if anyone goes and has the time check it out! was really good for a two man piece.

If anyone does come up i know i'm meeting up with Russ and folks... but come to the pub i work at, it's called the tron and i'll probably be working. I'm going to go and see daniel kitson, that's the only thing i've sorted out so far.

The Tron is located on the edge of The Mile just before the excitement begins too, there'll be street performers just outside it no doubt, which makes it a really handy place for meet-ups. It's also probably the only pub on The Mile that won't be jacking it's prices up to tourist level (It's a Scream pub). Top tip.

Yeah well this year it isn't a fringe venue as such, but there will be shows on and a comedy show case at midnight till 3 every night where comedians from all over the fringe come and do 20 min clips of there shows. Cheap food, cheapest in that area too. Cheap booze - £1.90 a pint if you know me, compared to the old £3 everywhere else, and pound a pint on wednesdays.
BAD THINGS ABOUT THE PUB:
The air conditioning is broken and has been for some time now. Altough where the shows are it works.

ill defo pop in if i can elliot not seen you in eons!
Oh yeah.. for the record I'm up there 13th-19th with a few others. I'll likely spend most of the week wandering round on my own seeing where the wind takes me but if any of you lot are around and have my number feel free to drop a text or a call at any point to see if I'm feeling sociable, night times especially when I see the partying taking over from the shows at least a few nights, if not all.
There's also a strong possibility at any point during the afternoon that I'll just be sat on the steps of the High Kirk, munching something, enjoying the chaos around.
Also.. if the weathers nice we could shoot for a big get together and drinks on Arthur's Seat one night? The Parliament buildings are beautiful after night fall and make a great meeting place, then it's just a walk up a hill to find a peace that'll put the days into perspective.

never really spoke before although we have said hi a few times. im there from 13th to 17th. but if i see you knocking about i shall wander past and shyly say hello before wandering off saying to uni friends 'thats russ... i don't really know him.'
if however you watch stewart lee's 'scrambled egg' show one night i will more than happily meet up and discuss the finer points of it. :)

Saw Stewart Lee last year and it was a decent show. Most likely will check him and Richard Herring out again if they fall conveniently with my meandering so will be quite happy to warble about it over a pint afterwards. I know who you are mate so no need for shyness and all that.

Don't be gay.
Found the best bar ever in the world, it's in the westend next to the rutland hotel, it's called the rat pack. It's a piano bar, quite cheap, open till 5 and on thursdays it has a turbo elvis. Basically an elvis impersonator doing elvis songs mixed with led zep, johnny cash, AC/DC and other such rock bands.
ALSO another amazing bar is nichol edwards, just off the royal mile down nidrie street i think, open till late with live music and comedy and it's in underground dungeons. Well good bar, also dead cheap.

It's the best bar in Edinburgh, my friend Arhip hates it cos he's got asthma and it's quite humid down there, but it is a converted dungeon with little cells converted into dance areas and bars and performance areas.

Oh oh, I'm going
I want to see a dance troop from Norwich and then I'm going home.
Student sketch shows: Horrid but oddly memorable.
Dan Nightingale: Squirrel fan.
Scream pubs employing E!!iot: Cheap Sauna.
Easy listening bands and over excited Australian girls: Thumbs up.*
The Mile in the afternoon: Familiar chaos.
41 year old man talking about wanking for an hour: Richard Herring.
Empty Tequila bars, pubs where the toilets laugh at you, discount drinks in every pub in the posh part of town, old women dancing to Elvis impersonators: E!!iot's Edinburgh Night Out
Drinking till 4am and still having a choice of places to go: Best party in the world.
Bumping into a friend you haven't seen for years just as you're short of something to do for an hour: Fringe fate.
Uninterrupted sunshine: Screw the Met Office.
Tickets for Tim Minchin tonight: It just keeps getting better.
Being treated to home cooked meals in the middle of it all: My excuse for being online.
*Don't be vulgar.
Tim Minchin was the best show I've seen in my LIFE! Watching him breakdancing with a bear just made my woes disappear. He's amazing.
I really enjoyed Bethany's show even though it was an hour after I'd dumped the boy and was pretty bloody miserable and nervous going on my own at night.
Saw loads of the free shows and the Rebus tour was worth the long trek around Edinburgh in the rain. I made sure I went in Rebus's haunts and drank plenty of real ale.

just got back...
i have some stories to tell about this place, most of them comparing it with Glasgow, which is where i ended up staying for the whole thing!
still it was the best festival you could go to this summer, sod your Glastonburys, Downloads and Leeds etc...
Highlights of the shows seen include:
Richard Herring stand up genius and still about wanking
Terry Saunders i have never seen a show that consisted of stand up comedy, theatre, a powerpoint presentation and elliot smith- until now :)
Jonny and Joe Show can be described as nothing but surreal. some parts genius, some parts not so, but very intelligent young performers
Lilly Through the Dark was a play about a girl killing herself and traveling through 'the deadlands' to find her father, and invloved actors and puppets. thoroughly entertaining.
I love you Bro if you like to be depressed in the afternoon so that the evening of comedy seems better like me, this is the play for you.
Greg Fleet- honest aussie comedy gold. with stories of drugs, homosexuality, rehab, and being on neighbours.
Lowlights (haha) include:
Paul Foot- although part of his stand up included a story about me he wasn't very funny. some other people saw him more than once and said he was great though so i don't know if i caught him on a bad day.
I Think You Stink was one of the most terrible shows i have ever seen. it was like a bad student production of a bad play with bad actors. its almost as bad as some of the stuff i have been in.
overall though, edinburgh throughout august is the greatest place on earth and i am definitly coming back next year. i might even nervously speak to russ again.
oh yeah and i saw this guy wandering the streets...
