View Full Version : Luton Down Football Club
10 points gone, fifteen more to come (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/luton_town/7401548.stm)
what the hell are the FA thinking punishing the club now for misdemeanours of long gone cretins who have run the club into the ground?
10 points deducted for this, another 15 points likely due to "coming out of administration in the wrong manner"
again, nothing to do with the people who have come in now to save the club, the fans who are desperate to save a club from going into extinction. 25 points deducted, we might as well form AFC Luton now.
thanks F.A you bunch of fat cat futha mukkas

Fella, under normal circumstances,i'd back you to finish in the top 7 with about 75 points.
Minus 25 leaves you 50 points, enough to stay up as 42 sent Mansfield/Wrexham down this season just gone.
A small comfort i know but if you do start on -25,then i'm gonna back you down the bookies to stay up. Remember, the diirrties did it with -15.......
Good luck fella........siege mentality will see the club through these rough times. Believe.
ah man. so angry. can't deny there was some crazy things happened with the old directors in, but they were sacked as soon as there was any hint of wrong doings. the club been struggling (last seasons lucky fa cup draw literally saved the club from extinction)
the full details of the "irregularities" are not known, but it feels one rule for big clubs (the west ham/tevez/mascherano debacle) and one for the small and poor. i like west ham, and wouldn't want thenm to suffer any point deductions, but why were they not done so, and now we are?

My guess is that The Premier League has its rules whilst The Football League has its own different rules.
There are examples but i can't think of any reet now.
wait...an example....Premier League clubs cannot loan to each other (i think). Football League clubs however, can.

They can, they just can't play against the team they're on loan from.

Cool......thats why i inserted (i think) into my post.
I knew you'd answer for me whilst i was asleep.
MINUS THIRTY F'KING POINTS
thanks FA, thanks a lot. conference and out of business, loss of jobs, a crippling blow to the community of Luton.
you bunch of stupid stupid twats
It's gone up to 30 points?? It was 20 points about an hour ago according to Sky Sports News. Luton have f*cked it.
already on minus 10 from previous owners f*cking everything up. now they added 20 more.
its sooo harsh. the culprits have disappeared scott free. Nick owen forms an association to save a pinnacle of the community of Luton and the FA wallop us with this.
i agree the FA need to make an example...make it of the people who actually did this, not the club they went in and f*cked over

Prediction: appeal, points halved, Luton get to play-offs.
Prediction: appeal, points halved, Luton get to play-offs.
i pray you are right. most we can get back is 10 points if your prediction comes true and they lost appeal on the initial 10 points from may

Either way it's complete bullshit. I'd rather they just relegated you and you had no points deduction like they did with Fiorentina a few years back - straight into Serie C1. There's no sense in handicapping a team so harshly.
totally agree
if i'm honest i'd prefer to go into the conference and start on 0.
it just makes a mockery of league 2 next season

It is an insane situation. The lower league clubs are up against the wall anyway, the FA is surely not wanting to form a situation where the money rich bigger clubs are the only ones left in the professional game? Luton is a proud club with a rich history, one amongst many dozens of teams struggling but keeping going as one of the few remaining organisations which are community representatives. Thirty points is not just a fine (if it is at all), it's fixing the result of the league; it stinks.

my knowledge of Luton's ownership situation isnt 100% but Luton town 2020 havent done anything wrong have they? the fault lies with the people who ran Luton before them so surely instead of Luton being affectivly being thrown out of the league before the season even starts surely the previous owners should be banned from every aspect of football (ownership, etc, even going to matches) for life + be fined as much as possible. do the people who run the football league have a brain cell between them? are they trying to turn Luton into another Scarborough or Halifax?

also i believe Bournemouth are in a simular situation but the football league are yet to decide how many points they're deducted for next season

Bik,i'm gonna stick a fiver on Luton to STAY UP for the coming season.
25 wins from 46 gives you 75 points minus 30 = 45....might just be enough to stay up if the season just gone is anything to go by.
My sympathy is with you Bik and all other Luton Town fans.
I pray to the Dear Lord that a fate as awful as this never befalls my team,PRESTON NORTH END.

I think you're absolutely correct. The fans now have a horrible season ahead of them, I'll definitely be rooting for them this year.

I'll be buying a Southport (Burscough) shirt this year, been getting back into my football and I don't really have an English team to support so i'll back the locals.

Have you seen the new Southport ones, they are well nice! You should get a Burscough one though, because when we're European champions in 7 years you'll be able to say you were a Linnets fan back in the day of the Conference North.

I have been following Burscough (properly) for a couple of seasons now, so, hah! how this past 2 weeks has been for us....From what I gather, don't really blame Liam for going but taking 10 players with him has kinda messed things up. Dunno how we're gonna scrape a team together to get us through the friendlies n'er mind the league.....
You going to the Utd XI friendly this Sat?

Why do the FA continue to stamp on the clubs that need a leg up? Harsh yes, especially when the people to blame get off. It's the fans who suffer in the end. :(

I am indeed, my favourite team playing my second favourite team (European champions, no less) at the mighty Victoria Park, will be either behind the Mart Lane goal or besides the home benches with my flag in tow! We've bought 10 tickets, this is pretty much the dream game for me! Had to stop going to Burscough in 2002 because I started playing inline hockey, but got to the Southport derby game on New Year's Day a few months ago. Remember watching the FA Trophy on TV (couldn't go as I was playing in a hockey tourney that morning, gutted), it was one of the best days ever alongside United winning the European Cup twice! Looking to start going again regularly this season, may get a season ticket when I start working! How long you been following then?
I think that what the manager did was right really. Non-league football is not a great source of income, and it seems that he left the club to help it rather than hinder it. The players leaving is a bit of a blow, but again, they need the money, and since they don't really have the option of moving around because of day jobs, moving to local rivals happens a lot more in non-league football that at league level. At least Ryan Bowen's back though! All we need now is Ryan Jennings and Robbie Cowley as well! Edit: how could I forget Lee Trundle and Lee McEvilly!
Best BFC players ever: Tommy Knox, Paul Blasbery, Ged Nolan, Darren Saint (just because he was my cousin!), and of course the great Robbie Cowley!

I've always argued that the richest clubs should contribute to a fund that can be dipped into if a club is in financial difficulties, but the power clubs would just argue that it would dent their European chances. **** that, it's about a community and a way of life, not money.

Heh Ryan Bowen, yeah, but Kilheeny and Faz going is a blow. You're right, non-league ain't gonna play his bills, and Southport have the cash, but I think we ain't been told the whole story on this yet sadly.
I'll be going on Saturday, shd be good, get back to having my pre-match pint at the, er, "interesting" Coaching House xD

if the football league or the FA created such a fund + put a very small % of TV revenue in it evry year it'd still be a lot of money considering how many £100millions Sky pays for rights but i cant see it ever happening, the people who run football seen to only be interested in how much money they can make for themselves.
i would hope all this doesnt lead to a further downward spiral + they end up in a situation like a team such as Halifax who've been thrown out of the conferance + gone out of buisness, i think the reformed club is now in the unibond div. 1 north, i believe they play Bamber Bridge on the 1st day of the season.

You can't make clubs care about less fortunate clubs. A massive help would be if people stopped supporting clubs that they have no real affiliation with other than they are a successful side at the time they become interested in football. The world really doesn't need another Man Utd fan not from Salford or South Manchester. It's pretty easy for me to say as my local side is playing pretty well and are sitting well financially but it was hard times before Whelan.

They're made by Nike according to the website and the back page of yesterday's LEP!
Right.
we have a glimmer of hope.
its sad, but rotheram and bournmouth have both been deducted 17 points each
so, we are only 13 points behind them 2, essentially this has created a mini 3 some league to survive in the league.

Don't worry, every footy fan has a right to be positive before the season kicks off, even with a massive points deduction.
When I heard about bmouth and rotherham I too thought about luton and how they must now think they have a slim chance.

A club has to be severely punished if it goes into administration IMHO. Clubs should balance the books. It is harsh on the fans and new owners - but probably necessary if it starts forcing clubs to be sensible with their money.

As long as the clubs are punished rather than the owners though, reckless chairmen will continue to be stupid with the money. If the club is punished, the chairmen are free as soon as they walk away from the club. I'm not knowledgeable about the FA's procedures for financial irregularities but my understanding of it is that the chairmen receives no significant penalty apart from being banned from owning another club.

if it wasnt for the fact i want Luton to stay up just so they can stick the metaphorical 2 fingers up to FA id want the season to end today, what with PNE being 2nd + Burnley being in the relegation zone.
only -23 now :)
Go on the Luton!
