Rock Speed is a good night in Ormskirk, Liverpool and Manc.
Back in the days i use to go to every night in Southport, but that was when Southport was like a family and we all knew each other, everythings changed now, lol.

The Krazyhouse and Roadkill in Liverpool are a good night for those who are into their rock!

You can add:

Anyone fancy amending the list to indicate if the promoter specialises in a particular genre?

Would save a lot of time. metal bands could go straight to the metal promoters and avoid the Acoustic-Folk ones, as an example.

Practice until you're tight enough to play anywhere. Then and only then should you start gigging.

hehe you sound just like a little wise chineese fella. Yeah but people brick it first gig so its nice to be somewhere you dont care about...chorley was a perfect example of this. I think somewhere way outta town might be an idea.

Try The Roxx Bar in Accrington http://www.myspace.com/roxxbar

The landlord, Stevie Roxx is legend, he even lets bands kip over if they are to pissed to make it home, Baby Bitch are playing there on sat night :cool:

Unfortunately Roxx bar is no longer alive, but the Sanctuary in Burnley is a mint venue - give that a try also:

Surely the purpose of this list is to save bands some time in having to otherwise do their own research?

But now they'll still have to waste time checking out promoters or venues who'd never in a month of Sundays put their style of band on?

Yes, I do want it on a plate :D

Any tips on how to get these promoters/venues to actually answer you emails?

My emails are brief but polite, correctly punctuated, with a short description of the band and a Myspace link. I can't see where I'm going wrong?

it might be cos your bands a bit pooh or youve got pooh recordings and arent being taken seriously because of it.
ive had gigs off some of those venues if youre the right kind of band and you sound good theyl refer you to the right promoter who puts gigs on there - i think that might have been the point of not putting genres with venues (what right-minded place only deals with one kind of band?). as for the promoters on it, theyre easy enough to find on your own.
im glad someone put that list up and i found use from it so nice one, now ive got extra people to pester for gigswho i didnt know before.

andrew.barber@allinproperty.co.uk

You do NOT want to play the Crazy Scots. They had to change it to the Happy Scots to stop people going in there to kill others lol. I would advise against it unless you're Scottish and throw a good punch haha.

BEAT is probably a good bet, I'm going to get my band on there once we're fully prepared for the world of showbiz :D

I think if you listened to the songs on our Myspace (http://www.myspace.com/babybitchrules) you'd see that neither are true. I might tbe wrong. Listen for yourself and tell me if we suck, because if we do then I may aswell stop wasting my time and money.

I think it's just a case of us not fitting in with any particular genre so we don't fit in with any particular cliques or clubnights.

We might change our name to something more quirky like We Are More Twee Than the Juno Soundtrack, or something more brootal like The Dragonslayer's Testicles. Could work. ;)

It is very disapointing when you're starting out, that venues/promoters don't even send a polite 'no thanks' - but you have to see it from their point of view, they get lots of messages from all sorts of bands and as they're only human they haven't got patience, or maybe time, to respond to them all.

Tip - if you approach by Myspace message you can actually check if the message has been read or not - at least then you know that they got it, even if they don't reply.

It's an idea to use the 1 in 20 rule, for every 20 messages you send out asking for a gig you might get 1 response. If you're good and target the right places/promoters the response rate will be higher.

Don't forget to follow up, if someone doesn't respond there's no harm in reminind them politely that you sent a message on (date) and did they see it? Sometimes it brings a positive result and an apology!

We just got a gig from a promoter who i first contacted 18 months ago!

And yes, goes without saying, it does help if the tracks on the myspace sound well recorded and the band pics look professional.
