"Modern" music
"Modern" music
What post-2010 music do you recommend?
We've all got "The Classics" and "Dad Rock" down pat, but what new shit that your kids could playing in bands have you found and you like?
My current replay is "Bloom" by Sludge Mother...

Re: "Modern" music
This caught my ear mainly because of the saxophone in it. Since starting to learn to play it my ears prick up whenever I hear it in anything current.
A friend saw them in Manchester recently, after recommending them to him and he said they were incredible and the crowd energy took him back to his old punk days.
This is Maruja- Look down on us.
(Hope this link works. I'm a bit rusty).

Re: "Modern" music
there's lots of great stuff since 2010 even as someone who has drifted away from music a little bit
let's start nice and obvious with imho the best accessible guitar album of the period

The Child (not the one who is on here, t'other one) dragged me along to see Black Country New Road, who were inoffensive enough but middling. Support act was this lot who I really liked.

I think I've heard that on Radio 6. I quite like it.KingsleyAnus wrote: Fri Feb 13, 2026 6:37 pm The Child (not the one who is on here, t'other one) dragged me along to see Black Country New Road, who were inoffensive enough but middling. Support act was this lot who I really liked.

Re: "Modern" music
Yeah, it's a bit VU, bit Patti Smith, but with British Posh Lass vocals. The fact I like it probably means it's instantly cringe and will be forgotten within 6 months

I've been quite enjoying Zeal & Ardor recently. Quite like the satanic bent on southern spiritual

Re: "Modern" music
I've been slowly coaxed back into k-pop (especially XLOV) the last few months but I get the feeling that's not the vibe here so instead I'll say that mum put me on Grace Petrie, Sally Pepper, and Carsie Blanton. And dad put me on Rob Heron and the Teapad Orchestra. I liked a couple student bands from my 2 years at newman too, like cadaver beach who performed at the ferret and were, quite charmingly, playing music about their friend group drama to the crowd consisting of the rest of their friend group

Do you like Black Pink? I'm a bit partial to them.Sunrise_Sinners wrote: Thu Feb 19, 2026 5:01 pm I've been slowly coaxed back into k-pop (especially XLOV) the last few months
