Old. SO fucking old.

Ok, seeing as everyone on here except my kid is now ancient, what's the bleakest, most ridiculously old thing about you?

I have gout. I mean who gets fucking gout in this day and age? It's like having dropsy or the ague or an imbalance of the humours.

I have/had spinal stenosis that was bad enough they actually gave me a multilevel laminectomy. Still hurts, but about 10% as much as before they cut chunks out of my spine. It also resulted in spinal and nerve damage that is unlikely to ever fully heal, so my leg is weak and moves slower than it used to. According the surgeon he normally doesn't have to do my particular surgery to people under the age of 65.

One hip replaced, the other imminent, due to arthritis.
Pretty sure I have it in my spine too, but I'll deal with the hips first. I can walk short distances but can't dance any more. That's what saddens me the most. I have an awkward, stiff gait and I'm scared of falling. My husband loves walking and I really wish I could join him.

Also, up and down to the loo all blooming night.

The middle-aged wee. Time was when I could set the clock by it. Practically arrange my evening around when to factor it in.

How old are you? I'm 54 now. Everything went downhill since turning 50.

I have the needing to wee through the night thing too BUT it is down to an erm, sexual injury rather than age.

Other than that I am not really sure. I find I am very stiff since having covid in 2021, would that have happened in my twenties? No way of knowing!

I am 43 now, I do notice I like my naps a lot. But I do still feel quite young, fitness etc wise. I am lucky to be quite sprightly still. I don't run any longer because my dog got too old! And I drink wine rather than pints of cider and black, does that count?

I'm 48 so I guess I have two years left before it all crumbles into the sea

I've got bloody ME. I know it's not really an age thing but I feel so old. Not helped by my 5yo neice finding my walking stick hilarious...

My dog getting old is bothering me a lot. She's not as interested in walks any longer, and a lot of my usual routes are now out of bounds due to stiles or being too long for her. Running is out of the question, she did come with me a couple of months ago but she has to really be in the mood (and obviously I am also mindful of not pushing her too far). She's been checked over and doesn't have any arthritis or pain however, so I am fairly confident it isn't too much for her when she *is* wanting to come with me.

But my fitness level will definitely be suffering due to this.

I've reached the point where before leaving the pub, even the one barely 6 minutes walk from my front door, I TRY to have a slash even if I don't need one, just in case.

I just did a 20 minute walk on my walking pad at slow speed and my glutes are killing me.

I hope everything will improve after my next hip replacement as this body of mine needs to be better than this.

Go on, who would brag about being injured during sex.

It wasn't something I thought was even possible! But here we are

I might blame my effed knees on age actually. Can I blame them on age when they first began effing up (from too much running) in my early 30s?!

This one was downright stupidity. Some people on here who I am closer to no doubt know about it.

If you know me I am not the type to be coy about sharing things to do with sex but I am not sure it is anything anyone would like to read about, so I will refrain unless anyone asks me outright!

38 now and have at times crippling arthritis in my right hip. Doctor reckons I've 5 years before a hip replacement but I have days I can't even put my socks on and now solely wear slip on shoes so I'm thinking maybe he was just trying to be nice...

I was told I was on the young side for a THR at 54 but I said I would rather enjoy better mobility now and if it needs redoing in my 70s it won't matter as much if that one isn't as succesful.
I think they try uo hold off because the 2nd one is never as good as the first, which is understandable.

But, it sounds pretty bad for you so I would push for one. As you know, it doesn't get any better.

I'm still using a sock-assist and wearing Skechers slip-ins 5 months on, but the pain is gone on that side. I'm expecting a date any time now for my left hip. I've also just booked a physio consultation because I'm sure it's in my thorasic spine too. Shame they can't replace those too.

If you get the option of going to Euxton Hall I highly recommend it. The nursing care there was a whole other level, and they only have private en-suite rooms.

(EDIT- I just read that you're based in Romania now so ignire that recommendation).

Yeah thinking the same. Annoyingly I can go weeks with zero pain and then I get a few days of crippling pain. Keeping away from bread seems to help strangely enough.

I've heard of people choosing anti-inflammatory diets. Maybe there's something in it.

I phoned the hospital today to chase up my surgery date. It won't be until May now. So that's disappointing.
I have some DIY tasks to crack on with though so I'll try to see it as a positive.

I have a painful shoulder injury and a problem with my back (not age-related, one was an incident where I was assaulted and my back's been fecked since I was a child!) and my chiropractor told me to avoid the nightshade family due to inflammation. I cut down on salsa after that but whether it helped or not I cannot say!
