They're pretty naughty, but with the amount of shovelware Nintendo are currently selling and making themselves FILTHY rich off of, it's kind of a Robin Hood vibe in my opinion.
ROMs have been around forever, it's just now you can play them on the actual console. With no drawbacks. Plus I don't have to go into a shop and ask for Pokemon, which is also a delight.
I have it for homebrew purposes. You can get DS games pretty cheap, and it's not like there's been anything worth buying recently (for a couple of years?) save Spirit Tracks anyway.
Would have seriously screwed up folks on my last games programming course though, a lot of us did DS games for mobile / dissertation projects, which you can't exactly do without an R4.
